free plants!

the five basil plants we bought from tagaytay are now at their peak.
we bought cinammon basil, sweet basil, thai basil, java basil,
and my favorite, italian basil last, february for only 20 php (50 cents) a piece.

now, most branches have blooms,
others have flowers spent,
and a few also have dry seeds.
i love the smell of basil especially when
i accidentally brush their leaves as i pass by.
we use the basil, specifically the italian basil, on our omelette,
a recipe we copied from an italian restaurant
during our wedding anniversary vacation this year
and for my all-time favorite pesto.
it seems i am not the only one loving the basil plants,
they are also attracting different insects,
wasps, bees, fruit flies, and butterflies.
but what i love more with these basil plants....
are these free seedlings!
voluntary plants that sprouted around the old basil plants.
got so excited with these sprouts and transplanted
the ones with true leaves on seedling trays.
i will be bringing them to the farm next week for mom.
guess we'll be making more omelette and pesto next harvest season.
:) sweet!

Hello, Angel! Thank you for visiting my own blog! I have enjoyed reading this one and also your last few posts. You have a beautiful family. I grow basil, too, and I love it most on grilled tomato and cheese sandwiches.

I love basil, the scent of it makes my mouth water - as I am thinking about it my mouth waters. Basil isn't very happy in our cooler summer we are having but I was able to keep a few plants hanging on. Wonderful you already have baby plants to share.
Thank you for visiting my blog.

I love basil with pasta and on sandwiches. I always cut the flowers off to get better leaves, but I should let some self sow!

@ carolyn yes, it's perfect for pasta.. love basil with lots and lots of cheese :) yum! i just let these batch of basil to flower because i want more plants next season, but yes, the leaves have much more flavor if the flowers are pinched off. thanks for stopping by carolyn!

Angel, I love basil too, it is one of my favorite herbs. Love to make Pesto, and I also freeze mine in ice cube trays with water for use later in recipes! See my post under the label basil on my blog! You have a lot of little volunteer plants too! That is great! Enjoy and Happy Gardening! Mindy
